Learn how to make a Christmas star and cross bookmark with this simple to follow free crochet pattern. These crochet bookmarks take very little time to complete and make the perfect handmade gift for anyone on your Christmas list.

There is no denying the special feeling that comes with Christmas. The chilly evenings, the fireplace rumbling, and yet the warmth we feel inside from knowing Jesus arrived, he was here.
The star of Bethlehem, much like our fireplaces during this season, shown bright in the night and filled the earth with hope and wonder.
The original crochet cross bookmark, which inspired this pattern, was made for my husband’s great grandmother by her best friend – a truly inspired vintage feel.

At the time, I had recently taken up crochet when my mother-in-law asked if I could re-create the pattern. As a result, I now have a pattern to share with you for the perfect bookmark to represent and celebrate the Christmas season.
Spread the light of the season by gifting these simple and beautiful star and cross bookmarks to serve as a reminder of the real reason for the season, the greatest gift, with every turn of a page.
“When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.”
Matthew 2:10-11

Tips
- I prefer to use cotton crochet thread, or lace weight yarn, for the purpose of a bookmark as it makes for a thinner profile.
- Starch the finished bookmark for a stiffer cross.
- Make great gifts or handmade items for: baptisms or christenings, sponsor children, Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes, teachers, craft fairs or fundraisers, and so many more.
- Mix and match with my heirloom crochet crosses for beautiful crochet bookmarks to place in Christmas stockings.
- This is an easy project perfect for crochet beginners because it uses basic stitches and is quick to complete.
Variations of this Project
- Crochet the star and cross in a single color or add a little color with ombré yarn or two different colors.
- Increase or decrease the length of the chain for a variety of sizes.
- Use larger weight yarn for a thicker bookmark, decor, etc.
