We have been beyond eager to share some very exciting news with you here at The Bluebonnet Farmhouse! We are incredibly honored and blessed to announce that our story has been selected out of thousands of applicants and is one of 101 true stories about the “Force Behind the Forces” chosen to be published in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Military Families!! Chicken Soup for the Soul worked in collaboration with the United Service Organizations to publish this beautiful book of heartwarming stories written by and about our nations service members and their families. In addition, royalties from this book will be given to help support the USO!

After reading the first two stories in this book I was already on the verge of shedding both sad and happy tears. Each story in this book is beautiful and unique, yet in many ways relatable to your own military life or experiences. As you read this book you begin to feel deep connections with these military families without ever having met them. Regardless of how painful some of these stories might have been to write, each contributor of this book poured their hearts out into their stories to uplift and encourage other military families. Chicken Soup for the Soul: Military Families is for anyone and everyone interested in reading stories about patriotism and family life to stories of deployments and homecomings. This book is full of comfort, inspiration, and support that is sure to not disappoint and a must have for any military family!

Don’t miss our heartwarming and humbling story, Tragedy Turned to Treasure. I vividly remember the day I read the Facebook post asking for stories to be submitted for this book. I did not even read half the post before the words of our family’s story began rushing through my head. Immediately, I began writing out every detail and had our entire story submission written in an hour and a half…. then I went back and read the remainder of the Facebook post! Many tears were shed as I wrote our story and many tears continue to be shed every time I read it. I would not trade my family’s story for anything because it has gotten us to where we are today. We could not ask for a more beautiful and treasured story to cherish. We are truly honored to be given this opportunity to share light and hope to our nation’s military families through our story.

Help support the USO and share this book with family and friends! We would love for military families to know about this wonderful collection of stories!

  1. This book looks like a wonderful resource Lauren! And a great resource that it is benefiting the USO. Congrats!

    • Thank you so much! Chicken Soup for the Soul and the USO did a wonderful job putting this book together! I am so happy to get to share it with all of you! 🙂

  2. Dear Lauren,
Thank you for sharing your wisdom and your heart with readers of “Tragedy Turned to Treasure” in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Military Families. I admire women like you who, in rising above your fear, encourage the rest of us to be courageous in our support of our troops and of one another.

A new friend, Patricia Walsh, pointed me to your website. I met her last week through our connection with Chicken Soup for the Soul: Military Families. She contributed “Lest We Forget.”

Thank you also for your kind words about my story, “The Common Denominator.”

    Linda Jewell

    • Hi Linda!
Thank you so very much for all of your sweet words! This message made me so happy to read. I am very thankful that God blessed me with my military man and opened the door for me to be a part of the military life.

I absolutely loved both of your stories! To Patricia – the reason behind “Lest We Forget” was absolutely beautiful and it warms my heart to know that those Dutch family traditions continue today.

The beauty of this book is getting to read everyone’s different story and yet being able to relate to them in some way. When I read your story I had to smile when you mentioned worrying about your son being alone for Christmas. I say this because I knew he would be taken care of, that’s the military community. My husband and I have spent holidays apart and holidays without family, but every single one was never spent alone. Our military community has always taken care of each other and friends made along the way truly do become family.

Thank you so much for reaching out to me and I would love the opportunity to connect with you!

      Until next time,
